BACKGROUND
Started in 2021 by ex-Formula 1 Engineer Andrew Shedden, Project A.T.O.M.S. is a government-funded research programme dedicated to pushing the boundaries of the latest in automotive lightweighting technology, here at as pro engineering.

Working in close partnership with nTop, the Lightweight Manufacturing Centre, National Manufacturing Institute Scotland & CA Models, Project A.T.O.M.S. seeks to bridge the gap between Formula 1 & Hypercar chassis technology, by exploring previously unknown lightweighting opportunities.


A.T.O.M.S. Part 1 & Part 2
By pushing the limits of lightweighting design tools & metallic additive manufacturing technology, Project A.T.O.M.S. Part 1 has already delivered extreme weight saving results - slashing part weight by up to 86% & increasing specific stiffness by 266%.

Project A.T.O.M.S. Part 2 now builds on the success of Part 1 to further explore mixed-material hybrid structures, as applied to an innovative concept for a Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) Gearbox Differential Casing.
