BICYCLE LIGHTWEIGHTINGSpecialist designers of lightweight bicycles that can achieve more with less.
Reduced Stage Times. Better Power Efficiency. Higher Top Speeds. |
Marginal Gains
Excess weight is a particular problem when it comes to hill climbs, crit events & sprinting. Every kilogram of weight saved equates to a 1.2% power gain, or about 2-3 seconds for every 100m climbed.
Although not a lot, on a typical mountain stage this can easily result in over 25 seconds saved, for a typical racer putting out 400 watts over a 15 km ascent. |
Minimised Power Losses
With a reduction in weight comes an increase in a rider's power-to-weight ratio. However, that power can't be used effectively if energy is lost to unwanted deformations in the bicycle's frame and front end.
Advanced carbon fibre composite materials have superior strength and stiffness-to-weight ratios, adding stiffness in the directions and locations needed the most. Using high modulus fibres ensures all energy is properly transferred, minimising losses and making every watt count. |
Aerodynamic Advantage
In high speed events like triathlons, TTs and mountain descents, aero is undoubtedly king.
Advanced composite materials can be easily formed into complex structural shapes and geometries, unlocking a bicycle design's full potential. Sleek, low drag aero bikes cut through the air, increasing top speeds without increasing power consumption. For example, a 10% reduction in Cd can result in a 3.5% speed increase. |
Lightweighting is the art of creating lightweight parts, structures & vehicles that can achieve more with less.
Improve all-round bicycle design & performance with innovative lightweighting techniques. |
as pro engineering ltd. is an advanced-engineering consultancy, specialising in the design, development and prototyping of lightweight bicycle components and complete framesets.
We help our ambitious clients to remain relevant and at the forefront of the cycling industry, by transferring the latest in lightweight motorsport design & manufacturing technologies. The cycling industry offers a lot of crossover potential from the world of motorsport and race car design. In particular, our experience gained in the design and manufacturing techniques of advanced composite materials offers the greatest opportunity for bicycle manufacturers to push the industry boundaries, and take the performance of their designs to the next level. |
